There’s something timeless about capturing a new family in their element—together, connected, and full of love. This session was just that. As a West Palm Beach family photographer, I often get the honor of witnessing families as they grow. This one was extra special. Their baby girl was just four months old. They wanted to freeze this chapter—the snuggles, the laughter, and the quiet magic of early motherhood.
And yes, that included a few beautiful breastfeeding moments too.
The Power of a Natural Setting
We shot this session at sunset, in a quiet wooded area in Palm City. The long, golden grass created a dreamy, romantic atmosphere. It felt wild and free, yet soft and warm.
Nature always adds a little something extra. It shifts the energy. Everyone breathes a little deeper, moves a little slower. There’s space for real emotion.
That’s exactly what this family gave me—real emotion. Real connection.
Creating Depth with Simple Details
To bring extra texture to the photos, we added a chair. This simple piece helped create more dimension and grounding. They allowed us to bring in variety without distracting from the intimacy of the moment.
The chair gave movement and contrast. It helped me capture them in different layers, different ways.
Her Outfit: Why It Mattered
Mom’s outfit came from 12thTribe. It was neutral, soft, and flowed beautifully with the natural backdrop.
It felt like her. Not just stylish—but comfortable, effortless, and earthy. The right outfit can set the entire tone for a session. And this one did exactly that.
Styling Support from the Start
I believe outfits matter. They help tell the story. They can create cohesion or contrast. They impact how you feel—and how you move.
Once a family is officially booked, I always send out my custom styling guide. It walks you through ideas, inspiration, and tips. But I don’t stop there. I’m your resource all the way through the process.
Some of my favorite go-to shops for photo-friendly pieces are:
-
Free People for movement and texture
-
Target for neutrals, basics, and kids’ staples
-
Amazon for easy access and last-minute finds
I’ve also curated a client Pinterest board filled with outfit ideas. Once you’re on my calendar, I’m happy to share it.
The Intimacy of Breastfeeding
One of the most heartfelt parts of this session was when Mom asked to include a few breastfeeding moments.
These weren’t staged. They were quiet and true.
There’s something deeply moving about photographing a mother nourishing her baby. It’s tender, raw, and brave. These are the kinds of images her daughter will grow up seeing—and feeling.
As a West Palm Beach family photographer, these moments are everything to me.
Let the Light Lead
We planned this session around golden hour. The way the sun filters through trees and wraps around tall grass can’t be replicated.
Natural light gives softness and glow. It helps bring out warmth in skin tones and clothes. And it sets the tone for more relaxed, emotive photos.
I encourage all of my families to consider a sunset time slot when booking. You’ll see the difference in your photos.
It’s About How It Feels
I’ve shifted how I photograph over the past year and a half. I care less about how it looks—and more about how it feels.
This session reminded me why.
The way the baby looked up at her mama.
The way her tiny fingers held on during feeding.
The way Dad leaned in, just to be close.
It wasn’t posed. It was them.
And it’s exactly what I want every family to walk away with—photos that take you right back to that feeling.
